Westcott. How to Get Your Child to Obey You. All parents struggle with disobedient kids at some point, so don't feel like you're alone. Start by ensuring your rules are clear and specific.

Warn your kids what will happen if they disobey and, if 80%(10). Additional Physical Format: Online version: Wieman, Regina Westcott, Does your child obey. New York and London, Harper & brothers [] (OCoLC)   To train your kids to obey the first time, you need to first adopt the right mentality.

You are the government of your home, and your children must come under you. They must obey, period. It’s not just your law or personal preferences you are enforcing, it’s the law of God. “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right” (Ephesians ).

The word obey in this verse cannot be separated from the idea of “honoring” them. Ephesians –3 continues: “‘Honor your father and mother’—which is the first command with a promise—‘so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long. View source Parenting tip: Getting your kid to obey requires looking, acting and talking like you have complete confidence in your authority. Parents should act in such a way as to exhibit complete confidence in their parental authority.

Verse 1. - Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. The first duty of children is obedience, and "in the Lord," i.e. in Christ, this duty is confirmed. The ἐν Κυρίῳ qualifies, not "parents," but "obey," and indicates that the element or life which even children lead in fellowship with Christ makes such obedience more easy and more graceful.

But it may even be dangerous to raise a child who obeys automatically, who swallows his objections and does what he's told without question. Here's why. Obedient children. An excerpt from the book Positive Discipline The First Three Years Children under the age of three do not understand "no" in the way most parents think they do.

(And, a full understanding of "no" doesn't occur magically when the child turns three. It is a developmental process.) "No" is an abstract concept that is in direct opposition to the developmental need of young children to explore. Obey. What the fifth commandment does not require is as important as what it does require.

The fifth commandment is not “Obey your father and your mother.” Rather, it is “Honor your father and your mother.” Still, it is clear the Bible places a great deal of emphasis on children.

As an adult, loving and honoring your parents does not equal obeying. God placed you with your parents for a season of time to help you grow into a mature adult. At some point this season ends, and your relationship with your mom and dad changes from child-to-parent to adult-to-adult.

The roles change from dependency and authority to mutuality. We want our children to hear the gospel, therefore we want them to hear us when we say, “Put your toys away,” “Get your pajamas on,” “Brush your teeth,” and that sort of thing. If parents can’t get their children to listen to them for ordinary, everyday tasks, then they forfeit a hearing for the gospel.

6 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— 3 “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” [] (4 Fathers, [] do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.

The family is neither a democracy nor a dictatorship. Rather, it is a God-given arrangement in which children can be lovingly guided toward responsible adulthood. As part of that process, discipline will teach your child to obey and help him feel secure in your love.

At one time or another just about every Christian parent has quoted this verse to their disobedient kids: “Children, obey your parents in the Lord for this is. “Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and do not be embittered against them.

Children, obey your parents in everything, for this is pleasing in the Lord. Fathers, do not provoke your children, so they will not become disheartened” (Col.

Colossians - Fathers, provoke not your children [to anger], lest they be discouraged. "Children," he says, "obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.

Honor your father and mother (which is the first commandment with a promise), that it may be well with you, and that you may live long on the earth. And, fathers, do not provoke your children to anger; but bring them up in the disciple and instruction of the Lord.".
